An old photo.

Posted by MWPA on May 27, 2009

I have so many things I should be doing, but instead of doing them I am looking back through the last yar at the photo’s I have taken. Its great to see how I have improved, I cant belive how many pictures that I thought were great at the time actually are terrible and not focussed corrrectly due to me using the wrong settings, I am reeditting a few pictues too, just to see if any are savable, here is one that a little bit of editing changed completely, this is my new desktop background!

Picture of the day is….

Posted by MWPA on January 23, 2009

MellowMellow! (click to see it larger.

Yesterday I went to the dollar stor to buy some props that I could use with my photography,as I am trying to practice and get better with my lighting skills, I also wanted to get some props suitable for my valentines day project. I chose to go to the Dollar Tree because they  are cheap, and I figured there must be some things they sell there that I could use. Well I ended up spending just about $8.00 and came away with 3 bunches of flowers, some valentines day candies, a vase and some pebles to fill the vase and some hearts on sticks. After visiting te Dollar Tree I went toi the next store along which is Ben Franklins craft store,I always find the store a little pricy but I knew the sold fabric and I wanted to see if they had anything suitable for a background. I ended up choosing 3 yrds of mottled blue material that makse quite a nice background.

The pictures that I took were using my camera-a 30d and the nifty fifty lens-named that because it is cheap and neat, it is the Canon 50mm 1.8, I love how sharp this $80 lens is, and I use it alot. I attached my external flash the 430exii and pointed the flash to the cieling so Mellow wouldnt get the red eye effect but he would still be lit nicely. The flowers came out so bright and colourful, I think this may be my favourite picture of the year-yes I know its only January!

I am going to try and take a picture a day from this point on, so that I can get more cresative with the things I have aailable, even if its just things outside my appartment, I really want to push my creativity, as I feel that my photography lacks the wow factor.

I am also going to push myself to learn a forighn languarge, We have a Rosetta Stone CD which was given to Will and I, so I really want to try and learn some Spanish-especially as it is spoken so widly accross the world.I am not sure how well I will do, as I have never been good at getting the accents correct, but I guess practice makes perfect. Even if I get a couple of ‘lessons’ in before work, eventually the language has to start sinking in, hasnt it?

Knock Knock

Posted by MWPA on June 5, 2008

Earlier today there was a knock at the door-when I answered there was a man with a bunch of flowers.

As Will has been away he had ordered some flowers for me which was really nice.

So now I now have a nice center piece on my living room table!

Busy As A Bumble Bee

Posted by MWPA on May 4, 2008

This Week has gone by extremely fast, I cant believe Its Sharon’s last day with us tomorrow. We have had a very full week getting out and seeing the sights.

Sunday I took her to a few local stores, it was her first day here so she was adjusting to the time difference, so we took it easy.

Monday was horrible weather so we went to Williamsburg, to a big outlet mall. This was my first interstate driving, it wasn’t bad although we did get lost on the way, and missed one turning on the way back.

Tuesday was nicer weather although there was alot of cloud, I took Sharon, along with Ember (who we picked up from her house and we got lost finding it) to Sandy Bottom Nature Park. We walked around the lake and took lots of pictures.

Wednesday was a BIG driving day, we clocked up a lot of miles driving all the way to the beach (Sharon on the beach is this second picture). We did manage to take a detour on the way to the beach, i took a wrong exit, but I knew where we were, so it doesnt count as being lost.

Thursday was a slow day, we had to wait around to find out if we were going to be able to get our truck back from being fixed, as we could have guessed it ended up not being ready, so we drove with Will to Norfolk, so he could go to physical therapy and we could go to the Mall.

Friday the weather was absolutly beautiful. We drove down to Norfolk Botanical Gardens, It was lovely and hot with a slight cool breeze, which kept us from over heating. The Botanical Gardens are nice and I’ll most likely go back there. on our way back from the Botanical Gardens we hit very bad traffic so we took a little detour and went to the zoo, Virginia Zoo is small but inexpensive. The meerkats they have there were really cute!

Saturday, today, it was really hot again, not such a refreshing breeze and well into the 80’s we went to Colonial Williamsburg. I got a little sun burnt and tried to stay in the shade as it was sooooo warm, we watched a lot of  the re-enactment and had a great day.

Sharon leaves on Sunday, and I think she has had a good time, We are both quite warn out from all this touristy stuff. I have lots of photos to look through and edit, and I feel like I have learnt quite a bit with all this practice.

Roses are Red….

Posted by MWPA on February 28, 2008

Well my birthday and valentines day has come and gone, and we are almost in the month of March, daffodils are blooming from the warm weather, even though we are still having snow flurries. The weather here really makes no sense, with one day being lovely sunny and warm, and the next there will be a frost on the ground, so far the daffodils are surviving.

My birthday was my 26th and I don’t really feel like I am any older, I still feel like I am 21, that is until it gets to 11 o’clock at night and I feel its definitely bed time, staying up late is much harder than it used to be! I find my self waking up at normal times and not being able to sleep in late, what happened to the days where I could sleep ’til noon?

Will gave me a great present for my birthday, a rather neat little add on to my camera called the Raynox 250, its a macro lens, so it magnifies my subject by a large amount. Its a tricky add on to get used to, you have to use the zoom function on the camera to get close to the lens addition, and that’s when it becomes hard to focus, you really have to pay attention to what you are doing. when you zoom in all the way you have a very shallow focal point, as you see in the leaf picture, most of the leaf is fuzzy except that very small patch. The other pictures are with that same lens and are of the roses that Will bought me for valentines day, the pictures of course are not perfect, but were one of my first attempts with the lens.

My camera is a point and shoot made by canon and is the S3IS model.
