How I Removed Yellow Tack / Blue Tack / Wall Tack Residue From My Walls

Posted by MWPA on April 9, 2009

Being that I live in a rented apartment, I did not want to stick lots of holes in my walls to display the photos of my friends and family that I like to have on display, so armed with some yellow tacky stuff a blank wall and a whole bunch of photos I decorated the office wall.  Today I decided I wanted to re arrange the photos and put them into 5×7 frames that I just purchased from walmart for $1.50 each, So I took down all the photos, carefully took the tack off the wall with out removing the paint only to find greasy yellow stains on the wall where the tack had been.

So after a quick Google search to see what other people use to remove the residue I found that most people had used an oil based paint to paint over it-that was something I did not want to do so after some more searching I found someone suggesting nail varnish or paint thinner. So I decided I may as well try the nail varnish to see how that works and if it messes up the wall I have to repaint it anyway to remove all the grease marks.

Using a ball of cotton wool dampened with the nail varnish remove I dabbed it on to the dirty mark, nothing happened, so then I tried rubbing a little bit, and I saw the paint start to come off the wall. So all I actually needed to do was dab the spot then using light pressure rub over the spot in different directions and the paint removed from the spot removed the grease mark.  I would imagine it is easy to over do this and end up with a streaky wall, so you have to be careful doing this!

If you tried this method or know of a better way to remove the greasy marks leave me a comment to let me know what you did!

Top tips to make you feel good about your appearance

Posted by MWPA on February 4, 2008

Are you familiar with those days where you just feel blah and nondescript or you feel like you have no wow factor?

Well if you want to change the way you feel, try out some of my tested ideas, I find that sometimes it takes just one of these to make me feel happy and confident, but other days if I do all the tips I feel stunning and full of energy, its amazing how much energy you get from feeling good about your self!

When you take your morning shower, take it extra hot, lather up extra soap and cover your whole body in bubbles, enjoy getting clean and rinsing away all the stress from your mind

Give your self a hair treatment, you can go out an buy an expensive conditioning mask, OR you can make your own, my favourite and least expensive is to wash my hair as normal then lather on the conditioner, leaving the conditioner on your hair wrap cling film/food wrap around your head and hair to lock in heat and moisture and let the conditioner do the rest, you can leave it on for 20 minutes or sleep with it, on your head, its up to you, rinse thoroughly when you are ready

Blow dry and style your hair in a different way, try a side parting, or a high bun, for a different kind of look I like to pull my hair into a side ponytail and tie loose knots in my hair and wrap it around and pin to create a bun.

Try some figure flattering underwear, there are so many different brands available on today’s market, push up bras to control briefs and even undergarments that have no seams so there are no visible lines, there is definitely something to suit everyone’s insecurities

How about giving your self a manicure or asking a friend or family member to give it to you (even better) although I am not sure I would trust Will with applying nail varnish. When I give my self a manicure, I always start by shaping my nails with an emery board, then I soak my hands in some warm water for a few minutes, Dry off my hands and then I moisturise my hands, this is nice if you get another person to do it for you, make small circular motions moving up the fingers to increase blood flow to the nails. Next I push back my cuticles and apply a clear nail strengthener, I love Sally Hansen’s Diamond strength Diamond shine base and top coat, I use it on its own or under polish. You could also do this as a pedicure too.

Apply some make up, if you don’t normally wear make up try putting a bit on, you can apply natural colours or be as bold as you like, I always apply three colours, I start with a light colour all over my eyelid up to my brow, I use the next colour just in the socket of my eye and then the darkest colour to follow the eyelash line, I use my finger to blend it all together, I love greens, blues or silver/greys (but not all together), apply some lengthening or thickening mascara to make your eyes pop and seem bigger and brighter. I don’t really like to use foundation but on days that I feel I need to I use a liquid concealer to hide blemishes and lighten under my eyes, and then I very lightly brush on a powder, and add a bit of blush to stop my face looking flat.

Put on one of your nice sets of clothes, it doesn’t matter if your not going out, or if you are doing house work, dress up a bit, leave the baggy pants and the t-shit that comes to your knees in the drawer, put on a nice pair of pants or a skirt with a pretty girly top and enjoy being feminine. You never know you may even get a compliment or two from the other people in your house!

Wear some jewellery, look through your accessories and find something you had forgotten about but once upon a time loved wear it, and enjoy it.

Most people have perfumes, but if your like me, half the time I forget to spray myself, so sniff a few off your fragrances, decide on which one you would like to wear and spray away.

My last tip of the day is eat some chocolate, indulge and think about how chocolate contains flavonoids which scientists say help prevent heart disease and cancer, dark chocolate will also help lower high blood pressure and one scientist even found that drinking a cup of enriched cocoa every day for three months improved the skin making it softer than it had ever been!

Here is a very interesting article about chocolate! HERE
