Welcome to my world

All About Me

MeWhat is your name?
My name is Rachel Clare.

When were you born?
I was born in 1982, the year of the dog. On february 11th, I am an Aquarius which may explain a few things about me!

Where were you born and raised?
I was born in a hospital in a small city south of London called Guildford. I lived in the South of England until 2005, when I moved to East Anglia, to a county called Norfolk, it is here that I met my Husband.

Why did you move away from a place you had called home all your life?
After living in the same place for years and years, it was time for a change, I had a few relatives who had already moved to Norfolk, so I decided if I was going to have a change, I may as well move to where I have more family.

What was your hometown like?
The population of my town is 13500, its built of two small towns that have started to get over built they now meet and it is hard to separate where one finishes and the next begins. There is one secondary school in the immediate area which I attended from 11 to 16 years old, and 3 primary schools which are for children 4 to 10 years old, so as you can tell from the lack of schools my town was small.

There is no train station in my town, if you wanted to travel to a bigger town, with a nice shopping district you had to drive or take the bus to the train station and then the train to town, the nearest nice shopping town was a 30 minute drive away.

Where do you live now ?
I currently live in Virginia USA

How did you end up in Virginia?
When I lived in Norfolk, I met an American called, he was working in England at the time I met me, and after a short while we fell in love, unfortunately 8 months after we met he had to return to the US. I visited him for three months at a time, a couple of times a year, that’s all my holiday visa would allow. He proposed during my first trip to visit him. For the year following the proposal I travelled back and forth between England and America so we could see each other, until we got married in June.

How did your husband propose?
He told me to dress up nice and that we were going out for dinner with friends, when we arrived he told me that the friends were not coming and we were going on a night time dinner cruise along the Elizabeth River. After eating and watching the entertainment, the disco started, we danced, somehow he was given the microphone and in front of the whole ship he got down on one knee and proposed!

What was your wedding like?
A complete blur, we had guests from out of state and out of country, so it was hectic trying to make sure everyone was happy. The wedding, itself was really nice, The church we used was the oldest remaining English built church in America. I was treated like a princes, we had a horse and carriage, and a lovely reception in a nearby waterfront restaurant. After the wedding we had a couple of weeks of rest before our honeymoon and second reception in England.

Where did you visit while on your honeymoon?
We went to London for a couple of days, we saw a show ‘Blood Brothers’ this is my favourite show and I recommend everyone to go see it! we went to Warwick Castle, and Salisbury to see the Cathedral, we took the tore up into the spire, which was an amazing experience. We went back to Wills old place of work and met some of his old friends for a night of drinking, too much cider was consumed that night!

Whats happening now?
After 6 months of waiting I recieved my green card, and I now have a social security number, I work as a Customer Service Rep at Best Buy, which is an electronics store. Every Saturday morning I am a volunteer at my local cat shelter, I clean the cages help socialise the cats and take pictures for the website.

What are your current goals
At the moment I am working towards learning as much about photography as I can, so that I can pursue my career as a portait/pet photographer.

Was browsing the POTN site and saw your post on “post your best pics from 10 through 30Ds”: I live in Hawaii and find people from europe kind of interesting; had a german girlfriend from Germany and their culture is much different from Americas, and of course from an island in the middle of the pacific ocean! aloha, Doug Y.

Hi Doug, its only recently I realized how interesting coming from another country makes me until I started working in retail, almost every customer has a question about my accent or where I am from…

Ah, accents and foreign countries – I’m Australian and have traveled the world, and no matter where you go, you can’t help but get into a long tedious conversation with someone at least once a day about where your from – It seems if its different, they pounce.

    Damn accents.

Cool blog, by the way 🙂
