Photoshop Elements Clone Tool

Posted by Rachel on July 6, 2008

While at the cat shelter on Saturday I was sat on the floor when I noticed two of the cats fighting-they had been play fighting all morning, so they were not hurting each other. Theye were on the back legs and it looked like they were boxing, they even had an audience, Pearl was in the Sink, Robbie is the cat on the left and Shawn is the cat on the right.

The only way for me to capture the shot with out the cats running was to take the picture through the  mirror, which was really dirty, so I had a lot of edditing to do with the picture. I used the clone tool in photoshop elements and set to work. its not a great removal of splodges, as there wasn’t much ‘clean area’ to clone from.

This is a GIF image so you will see the before picture and then in two seconds it will switch to the after picture.

  1. Good photo, considering it is taken through a mirror. You did a great job.

If I may ask as I am a 70-year-old still relatively new to photoshop, what is a GIF image? How do you get a GIF image? And if you want to print the “After” shot that pops up in two seconds, as you say, how do you go about it? Do you go to print after the GIF image changes, that is, after the lapse of the two seconds you mention?

    Grateful for any help.

    Hi Joe,
I have written a new blog today, it tells you how to create a GIF image, click this link: http://mrsbaine.wordpress.com/2008/07/07/how-to-make-a-gif-moving-image/
AS for printing When you work in photoshop the best way to make adjustments to a picture is by using layers, I always duplicate my original image, you can duplicate a layer as many times as you want, For each type of editing I generally open up a new layer, so if I realise I made a mistake early on in the editing process I can then go back and delete the layer I dont like. I think if you want to print a before and after image the easiest way to do this would be to merge all of your edited layers by right clicking the layer and selecting merge down.once all your edited layers are merged if you select the top layer by holding down the Ctrl key and pressing A then hold down the Ctrl key and C to copy the edited image. Hold down Ctrl and N, this will allow you to open a new photoshop page, in the first drop down box ‘clipboard should be selected and when you click OK you will have your edited photo as a new document and your original picture will still be open, you can print them individually to compare.
If you have any other questions, or if I wrote something that makes no sense, leave another comment and ill try and help-Im still learning to :)
